Not wishing to bleed a theme, had further conversation about noise with another woman, less mature and blithe. She was kind enough to let me critique the oppression.
Another everyone's probably been there!
Working for a retail Phoenix furniture operation in customer service - I was it - had an aggravating situation, you might say. The office was an enclosed cubicle within a city block-wide warehouse. As the summer heat increased after being there some six months and getting the job down, the environmental circumstance became dire. The warehouse was not cooled, but vented, and the office had a couple of wall units going all the time. One was loudly and monotonously doing so right behind me as I dealt with service and office issues. Not so much stress as unnecessary distractions and I can only do so much. It got to be too that; too pathetically who needs that sort of an abusive circumstance where an employer is oblivious to pleasant staff amenities.
Went out for lunch and didn't come back after I knew they didn't give a fig and no way I plead with knuckleheads. Oh yeah, I walked. Went to Durant's (one of the survivors of the Phoenix light rail debacle) to celebrate. Made that very declaration to the waitress - medium well. Got another job in a week. They directly dealt with heat exchange; compressors in soda vending machines. The desert heat was the same old story. Keep on moving and it's irrelevant compared to the assignments. Soon after was fortunate to take a job in Camp Verde.
